Nelson Packaging Limited
Andrew Poxon of Leonard Curtis has been appointed administrator at Lancashire-based plastic bag manufacturer Nelson Packaging on 25th February.
Around 40 staff have been made redundant at the plant which has now closed. Nelson Packaging, who has been in business since 1975, making bags and assorted packaging products, was bought by Warrington-based packaging group, Intelipac, in 2011.
The company’s managing director, Michael Flynn, has blamed the government’s 5p plastic bag tax and overseas competition for its current predicament. The bag charge was introduced in England in October 2015 some four years after Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland.
