Bristol Steiner School and Kindergarten has confirmed it will permanently close its doors at the end of the academic year, with Leonard Curtis appointed as administrators.

The education facility on Redland Hill in Bristol has served the area for 50 years, offering a “child-centred, relational approach to learning”.

However, the school will officially shut down in July 2024 - with the combined impact of COVID, cost of living, and reduction in student numbers making the financial situation unmanageable.

Joint Administrators at Leonard Curtis, Siann Huntley and Sean Ward, will help to manage Bristol Steiner School and Kindergarten during the final two terms.

The school will continue to be led by the SMT and the school team, with support from the Trustees.

A Bristol Steiner School and Kindergarten spokesperson stated: “Over many years the school has been supported by the generosity of friends, charities and the global Steiner Waldorf movement enabling the school to provide high quality education.

“Sadly, the recent decline in current student numbers have made the financial situation untenable.

“The school will continue to provide a Steiner Waldorf education, which I know the parents and children hold in high regard.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to the many families, pupils, ex-pupils, teachers, team leaders, and friends of the school for their support and generosity that have contributed to the schools’ success over five decades.”
