Daniel Ormerod and Chris Knott from Leonard Curtis were appointed Joint Liquidators to Slaters Club Limited, trading as Slaters Country Inn, on Monday 16th February.
The company operated from hotel facilities, based in Maer, Staffordshire, which were established over 30 years ago around an18th century farm and had 12 en-suite bedrooms, plus three family suites in a separate courtyard. There was also a country pub serving bar meals all day and a restaurant in the evening.
Unfortunately, unsurmountable pressures on cash flow in recent years had led to insufficient funds to continue or merit a marketing of the business for sale so the company went into liquidation in February with the loss of over 40 jobs.
Dan Ormerod commented: “It is a very sad to see a business with so much history close its doors. We are directing former employees to the government’s Redundancy Payment Services and other organisations to secure support at this difficult time.”
He added: “We are seeing a lot of distress in the hospitality industry at the moment. Food and restaurant prices are increasing more quickly than overall inflation, highlighting the ongoing cost and tax pressures the sector is facing.”
Although headline Consumer Prices Index (CPI) inflation fell to three per cent in the year to January 2025, food and restaurant inflation rose from 3.8 to 4.1 per cent, according to the Office for National Statistics.
Dan again: “We know industry leaders have cautioned that the issues of 2025 continue to cast a shadow on 2026 and predict another difficult year for hospitality, with mounting pressures continuing to weigh heavily on the sector.”
